Falling in love

People usually fall in love in two ways. One is when you meet somebody, start talking, find out that you have things in commonand spend more and more time together. You enjoy each other’s company, you find the other person attractive and fun. First maybe you will have a crushon them, in secret. You go on dates. You have candlelit dinners and go on romantic walks. After the first kiss you start feeling butterflies in your stomach. You have fallen in love. If this feeling is mutual, you start going out. You become a couple in a relationship.

Another way people fall for somebody is called love at first sight. They see each other for the first time, maybe they meet on a blind date even, and fall in love at once. It depends on what kind of person you are. Some people say love at first sight is just about physical attraction, but there are many long and steady relationships that started with chemistry.
We are different, so we react in various ways when we are in love. Some people are timid and shy, so when they meet somebody they find attractive, their heart skips a beat and they blush. They are at loss for words. Other people make the first step and they are not so afraid of beingrejected. They start flirting to draw attention to themselves. They give compliments, look their best and try to seduce the person they like.

Sometimes love can be very painful. This can happen when somebody doesn’t return your love or if they break up with you. It is also very heartbreaking when somebody cheats on you or leavesyoufor another person.
Love to marriage
If you are lucky, you fall in love with somebody who loves you back. After going out for some time, people who are in love start thinking about getting married and having a family. People usually think about marriage if they feel that they want to spend the rest of their lives with their boyfriend or girlfriend, if they think they have found their soul mate in their partner. It is more typical for the man to propose to the woman. He pops the big question, asking her to be his wife. He gives the girl an engagement ring, which is traditionally a diamond ring. The couple gets engaged and starts planning their wedding dateand ceremony.

In more conservative and traditional families it is customary to ask a woman’s father for her hand in marriage before the proposal. You have to sit down and have a long talk with your future bride’s father and explain why you wish to marry his daughter, how you are planning to provide for her and your future family. You promise to take care of her. In some cultures marriages are pre-arranged and the bride and the groom don’t even know or love each other. The groom’s family pays a bride price and the bride’s family gives money, goods or estate to the marriage. This is called dowry.

In more modern cultures the couple chooses each other and ties the knot because they are in love. However, they still ask for their parents’blessing. There is no dowry and bride price, but in some cases there are prenuptial agreements. Many people think that there is no need for these agreements if you really love each other, but they can come in handy if the marriage ends in divorce and one of the spouses has a bigger wealth than the other.

When the big day comes ..

Most weddings in the UK are either a  civil ceremony  or a religious ceremony, held in a church. First the couple has to choose and book a  reception venue,  draw up  a  guest  list, send out  invitations, choose  bridesmaids  and the  best man, buy the wedding dress, arrange a  honeymoon, and of course, select the wedding rings in the meantime.

If it’s a traditional white wedding, the groom and the best man arrive at the church first, followed by the guests. Last to arrive is the bride, normally dressed in a long white wedding dress, her face covered in a  veil, carrying a  bouquet  of flowers, and accompanied by a couple of bridesmaids in matching dresses. Usually the bride's father walks her down the aisle  to “give her away”. During the service the bride and groom say their  wedding vows  and at the end they exchange wedding rings. They are pronounced man and wife and they seal the ceremony with a kiss. When the  newlywedscome out of the church, the bride sometime turns her back and throws her bouquet into the crowd of girls that  gather  to catch it. The one who gets the bouquet is believed to be the next one to get married. The ceremony is usually followed by a formal lunch or dinner at a hotel. At the end of the event, the happy couple traditionally leaves to go on honeymoon.

LIVING ON A FARM

Nowadays there are less and less people working on farms. Decades  ago most farms were much smaller, and most farming was done with simple machines and horses.
In the early 20th century farms were more  diverse  than today. Most farmers  raised lots of different  crops  and  cared for  many varied animals. Farmers  planted  corn, oats, wheat and barley, and raised  cattle  and  hogs. Women planted large gardens of potatoes, carrots, lettuce, beans and  radishes. They also cared for chickens and sold eggs.  Throughout  the 20th century, as  machinery developed, farms began  to grow bigger. As they got bigger, they also  tended to  become less diverse. Many farmers raised just corn and wheat. Others raised hogs or cattle with some field crops.
As farms grew larger, many farmers  moved off  the farms their grandparents once occupied. More and more farm families are  selling out to  the large corporate farmers and are moving to town.

Being a successful farmer today  requires knowledge  of  advanced technology, educational preparation and business skills. Many farmers learn about the business and practice of agriculture through a training program at a college or university.
There’s nothing prettier than a couple of chickens standing on the  lawn  in front of a farm house. But they are  beneficial  too as they eat all kinds of  nasty insects  and keep things  neat  and  trim around the buildings and under trees.  Plus, they  provideyou with eggs!

On a farm, you have to get used to  dust  from the dirt roads,  gravel roads, fields oranimal lots. When it rains, the dust turns to  mud, and it  gets  tracked into  the house from boots and shoes.
If you are  fortunate  enough to buy a farm with fruit trees already planted on it, you are in luck.  Fruit trees take several years after planting before they begin to produce fruit. Fruit trees require a lot of  maintenance  too.  They have  to be pruned  and sprayed regularly. They are, however, a good  investment,  especially  if you plan on freezing or canning the fruit.

Most farms are several kilometres from town and it wouldn’t be  economical  to drive to town daily. When grocery shopping, or shopping from other  supplies, farmer have  to plan ahead  and buy for a week or two worth of supplies.   In the long run  it is a surprisingly  good way  to  save money as a lot of  spontaneous  buying  is eliminated  this way.

WHAT FARMERS DO ON A FARM

Farmer’s job is very complicated as they not only plough and sow, but they usually have to manage their whole farm, and make important decisions. Let’s see what farmers really do!

They are business managers, salespersons and supervisors.  To make a living, a farmer must decide what and where to raise or plant crops and livestock. Farmers must be aware of trends in foods and other agricultural products, to sell the harvest at its highest price or provide sufficient calories, vitamins and minerals to keep the family and any livestock healthy. Farmers must follow theups and downs of the commodities market, storing their harvest if they are able, selling their crop only when they think they can receive the maximum possible benefit.  Everyone in the family must pull together to take care of the crops and the animals. Farmers supervise family members and seasonal agricultural workers. They hire outside help only when absolutely necessary and only hire those workers who will give a full day's work for a full day's pay.

They are veterinarians, too
Veterinary care is expensive. Most farmers take care of all but the most complicated problems themselves, including such things as assisting in calving and lambing, treating minor to moderate cuts and abrasions, performing castrations, treating most illnesses and tending to overall general health and wellness. Most farmers administer inoculations themselves.
They are carpenters and construction workers as well.

Farmers build and repair fences, barns and outbuildings and maintain coops and pens. They dig post holes, repair roofs, dig trenches and build feeders, nesting boxes and shade structures. Farmers must know how to correctly and safely use hand and power tools as well as how to safely operate heavy equipment.

FARMING IN HUNGARY

The major part of Hungary’s land is arable as the climate is suitable for  agriculture; approximately one-tenth of the country’s land is under permanent cultivation. Nowadays, privately owned farms produce much of the country’s fruit and vegetables. Livestock in Hungary mainly includes chickens, pigs, cattle, geese and sheep. As far as the crops are concerned, the most important are cereal grains, like wheat, corn and rye, but the country also produces potatoes, sunflower seed and sugar beet.  The Hungarian breeds of domestic animals are often seen as national symbols in Hungary. Local national parks serve as "genebanks" to  ensure  their survival. The most important Hungarian breeds of domestic animals are:

- Long-horn Hungarian Grey Cattle - Hungarian breed, traditionally kept in the open full year.

- Hungarian thoroughbred horses - a mid-19th century mixture of the best Arab and English race horse characteristics.

- Lipizzan - the mostly white breed of heavy cavalry horses, originated from Slovenia and successfully bred in Hungary.

- Mangalitsa - a breed of pigs, characterised by their long curly hair and relatively fatty meat which makes them ideal for making sausages and salami.

- Racka - a breed of sheep with distinctive horns.

TRAVELLING BY AIR

If you want to travel long distance, the most convenient means of transport is air-travel.  Nowadays it is easy to buy an air-ticket: you can book flights online or you can buy them at travel agencies, too. Travelling
by air can be quite cheap. Budget airlines offeraffordable prices for everyone. You board the plane (get on the plane) at the airport. Usually, travellers have to arrive at the airport two hours before the plane departs (takes off).  When you arrive at the airport, you have to check in at the check-in counter. You have to check in your bags, too. After checking in you’ll have to pass through securitywhere they will check your ID or passport and your carry-on bags. You will also have to walk through ametal detector, which will check for illegal items. After you’ve passed through security, you can go to the gate where you’ll wait to board your flight.
